for the small to medium-sized contractor; however, as in sophisticated
project management accounting software, it must be set up correctly in
order for the user to gain the full functionality of its job costing
reporting features. When this has been done correctly, at the
year end, the contractor can transmit accurate completed contracts and
WIP (work-in-process) schedules to his outside accountant or certified
public accountant, saving thousands of dollars in billing fees each
year. Once jobs and customers have been set up correctly in Quickbooks, in order to compile a completed contracts reports, choose the Profit & Loss by Job Report, selecting only the jobs completed in that year. Similarly, in order to prepare a WIP report, again choose the Profit & Loss by Job Report, selecting only the jobs still incomplete as of the end of the year. Another way to implement the preparation of WIP and Completed Contracts Reports in Quickbooks without being required to select and de-select jobs is to identify the stage of completion as either "in progress" or "completed" under "Job Types" in the job information section: this is particularly convenient if one will be running the reports on a routine or repetitive basis.
